A Heart of Worship : Simple Ways to Worship God Daily

“Worship is a lifestyle of enjoying God, loving Him & giving ourselves to be used for His purposes. When you use your life for God’s glory, everything you do can become an act of worship.”
Rick Warren, A Purpose Driven Life

Our worship is not simply an act, but it is a heart posture that we intentionally assume moment by moment. It is a decision to joyfully surrender our will to God’s in everything that we pursue in our lives, on a continual basis.

The Bible speaks about worship in many different ways, and it's important for us as Christian women to understand what worship is according to the Word of God because it is a powerful and essential part of living life for Christ. Romans 6:13b insists: "Instead, give yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life, and surrender your whole being to him to be used for righteous purposes." And in Luke 4:8 we see Jesus saying “It is written and forever remains written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God and serve only Him.

Worship is an expression of our love, reverence, and adoration for God, and it helps us to connect with Him in a meaningful way, but sometimes, it can be challenging to know how to worship and connect with God in our daily lives. That's why I've put together this list of 11 simple ways to worship and connect with God every day:

1. Worship involves offering praise and thanksgiving to God.

Psalm 100:4 says, "Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name."

    • Take a few minutes to do some gratitude journaling, reflecting on the ways God has blessed you just today and thanking Him

     2. Worship involves putting God first in our lives.

Matthew 4:10 says, "Jesus said to him, 'Away from me, Satan! For it is written: "Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only."'"

      • Spend some time reflecting on how you prioritize God in your life.  Is your time spent with Him in prayer or in studying the Word something you make sure to dedicate yourself to consistently? Do you prioritize honoring God in your decisions throughout each day?

      3. Worship involves serving and loving others.

Matthew 25:40 says, "The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.'"

        • Have you served someone today?  Find one small way you can show love to or serve someone you come across today. This might involve offering to complete a small task for a loved one, bringing in an extra tea for a busy co-worker, or offering a genuine compliment or word of encouragement to someone who looks like they might need it.

        4. Worship involves singing and making music to God.

Psalm 95:1 says, "Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation."

          • Set aside a few minutes to listen to and sing your favorite worship song. Use that time to connect with the Father.

          5. Worship involves prayer and seeking God's presence.

Psalm 27:4 says, "One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple."

            • Make time for regular prayer and seek out opportunities to be in God's presence. Encountering God’s presence doesn’t only happen in church- be intentional about seeking private time in His presence, regularly

            6. Worship involves acknowledging and confessing the greatness and holiness of God and sharing the love of Christ with others.

Isaiah 6:3 says, "And they were calling to one another: 'Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.'" Matthew 28:19-20 further exhorts us, "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

              • Share the good news of God with someone you come across today, whether through a conversation or through your actions. Share with someone how God has been blessing or transforming your life lately.

              7. Worship involves meditating on and studying the Word of God.

Psalm 1:2 says, "But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night."

                • Make time for regular Bible study and meditate on the truths found within its pages. This might involve reading a chapter of the Bible each day, or joining a Bible study group. Take devotional time to the next step by seeking to truly study and meditate on God’s Word

                8. Worship involves living a righteous and holy life:

Psalm 15:1-2 says, "Who may worship in your sanctuary, Lord? Who may enter your presence on your holy hill? Those who lead blameless lives and do what is right, speaking the truth from sincere hearts."

                  • Take a moment to reflect on how your conduct and attitude are reflecting the love of Christ or how it might be lacking. We are living representations of Christ’s character and love on earth

                  9. Worship involves obeying and following God's commands.

John 14:15 says, "If you love me, keep my commands."

                    • Seek to live a life of obedience to God, even in the small things. This can include making an effort to follow the principles outlined in the Bible and seeking guidance through prayer when making decisions.

                    10. Worship involves putting our trust in God.

Psalm 37:5 says, "Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this."

                      • Let go of control and put your trust in God. Surrendering your plans and expectations to Him or trusting in His timing and plan for your life are practical ways to implement this in your life.

                      11. Worship involves fellowship with other believers.

Hebrews 10:25 says, "Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching."

                        • Get together with someone you love and who encourages you in Christ & whom you can encourage in Christ. Allow God to lead you into Christ-cultivated connections throughout your life.
